World-renowned bar The Everleigh celebrates its tenth anniversary with two months of festivities

For a cocktail bar, racking up ten years of life is no small feat, especially considering the many months of curveballs COVID-19 has thrown at us. So the fact that the famous Fitzroy cocktail is haunting the Everleigh set to turn the big 1-0 is cause for serious celebration – two months of celebrations, in fact.

Yep, the Gertrude Street mainstay of Michael and Zara Madrusan (Made in the Shade — Heartbreaker, Connie’s, Bar Margaux) is fittingly stepping out on its 10th anniversary, with a slew of festivities planned for the weeks to come.

Zara and Michael Madrusan

It all starts with a bar takeover of somewhat epic proportions – famed New York bar Attaboy will descend on the venue for a unique evening of great booze on Sunday, May 29, helmed by owners Sam Ross and Michael McIlroy. Not just an excuse to indulge in world-class sips, the event will also see Madrusan return to its roots, with the owner-bartender a proud veteran of Attaboy’s pioneering predecessor Milk and Honey.

There will be four ways to enjoy the Attaboy takeover: a front row seat at the bar with a signature bottled cocktail included in your $150 ticket, a table for two in the main bar ($75 per person ), a table in the saloon ($75 per person) or, if you have a crew of 10-15, an exclusive spot for groups upstairs ($75 per person).

All tickets include a drink on arrival, two signature Attaboy cocktails and a range of snacks, served with the usual hospitable flair of the Everleigh team. And if you run out — or just can’t get enough — the venues just dropped two signature bottled Attaboy cocktails, available on the website, one designed by McIlroy and the other by Ross. You better hurry, because there are only 100 copies of each.

The festivities continue on Wednesday June 29 with the return of Everleigh’s Classic Cocktail Book Club. Madrusan will join a group of special guests for an entertaining, cocktail-matching dive into the historical tome, The bartender’s guide or how to mix drinksby Jerry Thomas (1862).

And on Thursday, July 28, the bar’s tenth anniversary gala will provide an evening of signature sips, live entertainment and surprises, in what should be one of the most memorable parties of the year. More to come.

The Everleigh is one of Melbourne’s most acclaimed cocktail bars and has made numerous appearances on the World’s 50 Best Bars list in its lifetime.
