LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – As a morning reporter, you know I need my caffeine and now is the perfect time because Lexington Coffee Week is underway through May 1.
For a week, some local cafes offer specialty coffees and teas for $4. From cereal-inspired cold brews to spicy curry lattes, we decided to try some of the more unique offerings.
Our unique Lexington Coffee Week drink tasting started at Nate’s Coffee for shots of tiramisu-flavored espresso-infused Jell-O.
“There’s birthday cake whipped cream, mocha powder on top, vanilla mocha, and birthday cake in Jell-O’s real concoction,” said Nate Polly of Nate’s Coffee. .
It was similar to a panna cotta and very delicious.
Next stop was Leestown Coffee for a cold brew of fruity pebbles.
“A lot of people haven’t tried taro root and it’s my favorite bubble tea flavor. And so when I brought everyone here to try it, they were like, Oh my god, it tastes like fruity pebbles,” Haleigh Best said. “Everyone is obsessed with color at first, and they’re like, ‘Oh, I can put it on my Instagram right now!’ So it’s always fun, but it’s even better when it’s good and not just pretty.
Last stop was Broomwagon Coffee + Bikes.
“We have a coconut curry latte. It’s a latte with curry spices like lemongrass and cinnamon. It’s coconut milk infused with that and then we top it off with a double shot magic bean espresso and Thai basil,” said Haley Barlow. .
