Billionaire Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is would have planned to develop an upscale hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

Fertitta is eyeing a roughly 6-acre property for about $200 million, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other local media, which said the deal is expected to be finalized in the coming months.

The property, which is occupied by a tequila bar and grill, is across the street from a luxury chain store and the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, according to local media.

A Fertitta spokesperson could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.

The reported development is said to be the latest of many recent big projects pursued by Fertitta, the 64-year-old CEO of Fertitta Entertainment with an estimated net worth of $5.7 billion.

Last month, the Chronicle reports that Landry’s Inc., Fertitta’s Houston-based hotel company, was pursuing a deal that would see it take over the lease of Pier 21, a sprawling property in the harbor in Galveston’s historic port area.

The billionaire also owns Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Joe’s Crab Shack and the Golden Nugget casino chain, located primarily in Nevada.

Fertitta also owns the upscale Post Oak Hotel in Uptown Houston.
