We’ll get our pink drinks any way we can.
While people abroad rave about pink drinks sold at Starbucksthe chain has yet to give its customers in Japan a taste of this elusive beverage.
We can’t really complain, because let’s face it, Starbucks has given us a lot of pink-colored drinks in the past. However, every time we see the color adorning a new release from the chain, we can’t help but wonder if it will taste the same as pink drinks overseas.
So when our Japanese-speaking reporter Punico Ninoude heard that Starbucks would be bringing its Strawberry Frappuccino back on the menu this year, she explored whether it would ease her pink drink cravings.
▼ Released on May 11, the new drink is priced at 660 yen (5.12 USD).
Sure, there’s a mound of cream on top, like a regular Frappuccino, but there’s no denying that. this drink is pink. Its marbled pattern was a beautiful sight to behold, and the way the strawberry sauce came together in the base of the drink promised to treat the taste buds with packets of sweet, fruity flavor.
Leonardo da Vinci once said “Simplicity is the ultimate sophisticationand that’s definitely the case with this new drink. The simple flavor of milk and strawberries is the star of the show here, blended with finesse to produce a drink that made Punico swoon from the first sip.
It was both tart and sweet, and one of the best things about it was how it offered flavor variations depending on where you sipped the drink — the soft pink areas provided a creamy fruitiness, while the darker areas provided a more intense hint of fruit, with the milky notes playing a calmer melody in the background.
If you think about it, the only major components that this drink is missing to make it taste like pink drinks overseas are coconut milk and acaior just acai if you forget the fact that both drinks contain milk.
That’s not too much of a difference for a pink drink lover like Punico, so the next time she craves a taste of rose, she plans to buy another one, and maybe she’ll go there. will add acai to see if it adds the extra punch it needs to truly replicate the drink.
Either way, whether you like pink drinks or not, this Strawberry Frappuccino will delight your taste buds…until the chocolate version hits stores on May 20!
