Although the C. Baldwin hotel opened downtown a few years ago, the launch of its new speakeasy is likely to grant the destination plenty of new eyes — and guests. living room hideout is a chic and sophisticated space with elegant feminine touches and a contemporary yet classic vibe. It is accessed through a secret door near the lobby bar and serves as an exclusive private event space for up to 65 guests for occasions such as personal parties, corporate events and other celebrations.
Event hosts and their guests will have access to an exclusive cocktail and catering menu curated by the celebrity chef Chris Cosentino, who is the original talent behind Rosalie Italian Soul, the hotel’s existing restaurant. Highlights include luxury caviar servicea premium cocktail and champagne menu and plated meals such as Grilled cheese Talleggio with truffle, Bacalao donuts (salted cod) served with Mentaiko Aioli (spicy pollack roe), and Jalapeño Arancini Poppers. All of this can be enjoyed under the custom designed eight foot diameter crystal chandelier in the center of the room.

Charlotte Baldwin Allen is both the hotel’s namesake and the design inspiration for Parlor Hideaway — along with women in general. “The space was inspired by the traditional speakeasy, but not defined by it,” said its award-winning designer Kate Rohrer, of Philadelphia. ROHE Creative. “We wanted the space to tell the story of a woman’s many complexities. Although beautiful on the surface, there is still a soul. The base of the room features a pink bar, jade green artwork, and a sitting area with a marble fireplace with many custom features: Victorian millwork, botanical wallpaper, and velvet cushions.
“C. Baldwin represents the best of what Downtown Houston has become, and the new Parlor Hideaway continues that narrative,” said Chris Niederschulte, managing director of C. Baldwin. “We’ve created an intriguing event space unlike anything Houston has to offer, and we’re thrilled to open our doors.”
