Los Cabos Villa Offers Resort Living, Ocean Views in Sunny Mexico

There is Cabo, and then there is Cabo again. The Mexican resort destination of Los Cabos, at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, is actually made up of two neighboring communities connected by a corridor of luxury resorts offering sun, beaches and water sports.

Cabo San Lucas is renowned for its nightlife and bustling downtown. San Jose del Cabo is said to be quieter, more family-friendly and has an old colonial town steeped in traditional Mexican charm.

Facing the square in the historic quarter is the Missionary Church of San José. Art galleries, restaurants and shops can be found near the square, which is centered on a bandstand.

Designed as an executive retreat, Villa Olivia in San Jose del Cabo is gated and surrounded by an elegant stone and gilt wrought iron perimeter wall. Arched windows and doorways, a tiled roof, and a beamed porch add a Mediterranean vibe.

But such details can be easy to overlook in light of the expansive Sea of Cortez views that seem to stretch out to sea from the infinity pool.

The pool features an elevated spa and a four-stool swim-up bar with a sink. A covered terrace houses the barbecue area and a fireplace.

The nearly 7,500 square foot indoor living space features details such as rich woodwork, crown moldings and Egyptian marble floors. When combined with outdoor spaces, terraces and balconies, there is almost twice as much living space.

Ocean views begin at the domed foyer, which descends into a great room with a vaulted ceiling. A wood-topped fireplace sits in the living room on one side of the room and the kitchen on the other. The spaces are separated by a dining room and a bar. The kitchen includes an island, beamed ceiling and a dining area.

Architectural details such as wooden beams and tray ceilings continue in the seven bedrooms. Several of the 8.5 bathrooms have stand-alone tubs.

A mosaic stone driveway leads to the front door and double garage, where there is also RV parking.
