Looking for something to do this week? Amid all the sickness and cold, there are some fun food and drink activities this week that are worth a closer look. Betty White-inspired ice cream, a new pass at Peter Piper Pizza, and new CBD mocktails at a trendy downtown bar are at the top of our treat list this week.
Celebrate Betty White at Sweet Republic
Actress Betty White was an icon and trailblazer with over eight decades on camera. His passing so close to his 100th birthday came as a shock to his legion of fans. To honor his legacy, Sweet Republic locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe will celebrate with a special ice cream flavor based on an episode of “The Golden Girls,” the company recently announced in a press release.
In one episode of the show, Rose – played by White – bakes a friendship cake to St. Olaf called “vanskapkaka” to win over a controversial colleague.
“Do you want to see my vanskapkaka?” Rose asks.
“Only if I don’t have to show you mine,” Sophia replies.
Vanskapkaka really means friendship cake in Swedish and looks like visiting cake, which is a real Swedish dish. It is this dish that inspires the new flavor of ice cream, called St. Olaf Friendship Cake. It is a cake with toasted almonds and vanilla in a brown butter and orange zest ice cream.
The flavor will be available for a limited time, according to the press release.
Peter Piper Pizza unveils the FunPass
Traditional gaming tokens and paper tickets used to play arcade games like Skeeball and Smokin ‘Tokens are now a thing of the past at Pizza Peter Piper, recently announced the restaurant chain. The tokens will be replaced by the new Peter Piper Pizza FunPass. With FunPass, guests can purchase a card to play games in the arcade and collect points to redeem for prizes on current or future visits without having to track old tokens and tickets.
The easy-to-use FunPass cards can also accumulate points to redeem for additional play time or prizes on the same day or on a subsequent visit, meaning there is no longer a need to keep track of tokens and paper tickets.
“We listened to our loyal guests, and they told us they would like it even easier to enjoy the Peter Piper Pizza gaming experience,” said Genaro Perez, vice president of marketing for Peter Piper Pizza. “For generations, families have come to Peter Piper Pizza to make memories over a great meal while having fun, and FunPass is an innovation our customers will love.”
