“This new look is a tribute to one of our most iconic bottles, but it’s more than just an updated design,” says Guillermo Gonzalez, responsible for the La Gonzaleña distillery and Chinaco. “It’s a representation of Chinaco’s rebirth, our family heritage and Chinaco’s unique taste profile achieved by using only agave from Tamaulipas.”
The La Gonzaleña distillery was built in 1972 in Tamaulipasand since its consecration, the Gonzalez family has made a name for itself in the tequila world, gaining the ability to distill tequila outside of Jalisco and paving the way for premium tequila in America. Just a decade after its inception, Chinaco has become the first high-quality artisanal tequila to be available in United Statesand it revolutionized the way Americans drink tequila.
“We are delighted to join the Chinaco team in celebrating 50 years,” said CEO and Chairman of Hotaling & Co. Dan Leese. “With its historic position as the first premium tequila to be sold in the United States and the distillery’s commitment to the Tamaulipas region, Chinaco is a truly unique tequila that fits perfectly into Hotaling & Co.’s portfolio of like-minded spirits, including craft gins, whiskeys, liqueurs and more.
Chinaco is currently available in three expressions – Blanco, Reposado and Añejo – each featuring unique taste profiles as the only tequila produced in the Mexican state of Tamaulipaswhere the different reliefs and the proximity of the ocean give the agave complex flavors, in particular tropical and salty notes.
Chinaco Blanco
(40 proof; 700ml; $49.99 PRS)
Chinaco Blanco is distinguished by its 100% agave fresh taste. Bottled within five days of distillation, this tequila tastes remarkably fresh and clean, perfect for sipping, making premium margaritas or adding to mixed drinks. Immaculately clear, Chinaco Blanco offers a bouquet of pear, quince, dill and lime, tinged with aloe. It is clean, unctuous, fresh and bright on the palate, with exceptional depth and balance, followed by a soft, long and lingering finish.
Chinaco Reposado
(40 proof; 700ml; $59.99 PRS)
Chinaco Reposado is aged for eleven months in white oak barrels of France and England, some of which were at one time used to age Scotch and are now over 35 years old and impart a soft oak character. This tequila mixes beautifully, but also stands tall on its own. Light golden amber in color, Chinaco Reposado has a generous nose of citrus zest, peach and apple, hints of dill and quince. Clean, fresh flavors carry through on the palate, with full depth and balance, crowned by a medium-long, lingering, fruity and spicy finish.
Chinaco Anejo
(40 proof; 700ml; $79.99 PRS)
Chinaco Añejo is aged for thirty months in a mixture of barrels similar to that of Chinaco Reposado, as well as American bourbon barrels, guaranteeing its constant sweetness and character. The result is a remarkably smooth and rich complexity that tastes best like a fine cognac. With a rich golden amber color, Chinaco Añejo offers subtle aromas of pear, wildflowers, vanilla, smoke and baked apple, edged with papaya and mango. The flavors are rich and complex, with exceptional depth, balance and style, ending in an opulent, spicy and smoky finish.
