We would all agree that we need a cocktail every now and then. And the weekend demands it, either to finish last week or to prepare for the next one. And if you’re fed up with your regular mixes and plan to change direction, we might have something in store for you. We reached out to Joel Scholtens Lindsay, liquid chef and mixologist at Taj Palace, New Delhi to share his expertise with us. Having traveled a lot and strongly influenced by various cultures, Joel has been practicing his profession for 24 years now. Here’s a list of cocktails you can try based on your zodiac sign this weekend:
For Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces)
Water signs are generally intuitive, emotional, and sensual. Queen letizia, a refreshing and fruity cocktail suits them perfectly.
Ingredients
90 ml of red wine
10 ml of homemade aloe vera syrup
20 ml mashed blackberries
1 no. Orange twist
A pinch of Angostura Bitters
Choice of sea salt
Mixology
In a shaker, add the red wine, aloe vera syrup, blackberry puree and angostura bitters and shake well. Garnish a crystal goblet with sea salt and an orange zest. Filter and pour over the cocktail. Garnish with blackberries and serve.
For the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn)
Poppy milk, a simple yet indulgent and calming cocktail that exemplifies practical, careful, and humble Earth signs is Joel’s choice.
Ingredients
50 ml of whiskey
20 ml of artisanal liqueur with homemade five spices
45 ml of milk
2 tablespoons of poppy seeds
Mixology
In a shaker, add the ice cubes and all the ingredients, shake well. Serve chilled in an old-fashioned glass, garnished with a stick of cinnamon and star anise coated with poppy seeds
For the Fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius)
Laurence of Arabia is an aromatic cocktail to complement the passionate, courageous and ambitious fire signs.
Ingredients
60 ml rum infused with toasted almonds and dates
15 ml of homemade sumac syrup
1 egg white
A dash of bitter with spices and the juice of half a lemon
Mixology
In a shaker, add the ice cubes and all the ingredients, shake well. Filter and serve chilled in a cup garnished with a slice of dehydrated orange and a date on the side.
For Air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius)
A floral and aromatic cocktail, Princess mary, comes with a unique flavor profile and will sting the intellect of the Air Signs.
Ingredients
60 ml of Dry Gin
3 n ° s Fresh basil
5 ml of sugar syrup
1 egg white
A pinch of matcha powder, a few drops of lavender extract and the juice of a quarter of a lemon
Mixology
In a shaker, add the ice cubes and all the ingredients, shake well. Filter and serve chilled in a cup garnished with a pinch of matcha powder and a basil leaf.
