I woke up this morning and saw I had a text message. I opened it, it was a screenshot of a close friend. Hmmm? I thought to myself and tapped on the photo. And reading it I could only think Oh no.
It was a Yellow City Street Food article sharing the news that they had been broken into early this morning.
I hate to hear that happened to them. It’s one of the restaurants that brought the area back to life, and dozens of people took the risk and opened their own little restaurants in YCSF’s wake.
Heck, I remember when Rin and Scott started out, and they had a pretty humble start with a big big dream, they worked hard for what they have now, and they weathered the pandemic, only to have their restaurant broken in and trashed. What a mess.
But what strikes me the most is that they look far from angry and ready to go crazy … as I would have been … instead, they just note that the burglary took place shortly after an hour. some owners had left the building and expressed their gratitude that no one was injured.
Then they end with this poignant statement:
These have been tough times for us this year, with the aftermath of 2020. Our hearts are with all small businesses as many have gone through tough times in the past year.
Lots of love. Be careful.
It’s a sign of the good people right there.
So my next question is … what will we do to protect our small businesses? We are talking about how small businesses should be supported by chains. We are talking about how they are the backbone of our company.
Yet time and time again I hear about these small businesses being broken into and the culprits are never caught.
What can we, the community, do to help protect the small businesses that serve us?
Think about it. Because I know I will be.
Amarillo restaurants that have recently closed
It was a difficult time for local businesses. We were sad to see these restaurants leave … but maybe they will come back! Until then, take a look at the places that closed recently.
Recently opened restaurants
While some restaurants have been forced to close, others have opened. Take a look at some of the more recent openings.
